Composting

  1. Gather all grass clippings and green yard waste but be sure to mix with the "brown" materials like leaves and shredded paper to add carbon. You will need both, but if you only add grass clippings your pile will compact and start to stink.

  2. Do not compost meats or pet droppings. Stick with food scraps and yard waste only.

  3. Avoid all pesticides and/or herbicide treated material.

  4. If you add weeds to your pile make sure your pile is good and hot. It should be steaming hot, not just warm otherwise it may not kill the seeds.

  5. Turn your pile as often as you can. Each time you turn it will speed up the process.

Spring is here and it is time to Compost

Composting at home is one of the most eco-friendly things you can be doing with your extra food scraps. It helps reduce what goes to the landfill, and if you compost alongside recycling, you’ll be amazed to see how much more slowly your trash cans fill up!
Composting can also be great if you’re a gardener, since the end result is a great recipe for boosting the health of your plants, both indoor and out. Don’t have a garden? Give away or sell the compost to friends and neighbors!

There is always a first time for everything.  Usually we talk about Cangles or Eco Friendly things to make and ways to be Eco.  Today I am giving you a recipe for the traditional
St. Patrick's Day Corn Beef and Cabbage.

Corned Beef & Cabbage Recipe
Delicious corned beef and cabbage is the classic St. Patrick's Day meal. So hearty and good, you will want to serve it all year long!
Ingredients:
3 pounds corned beef brisket with spice packet
10 small red potatoes
5 carrots, peeled and cut into pieces
1 large head of green cabbage, cut into wedges
Directions:
Place corned beef in large cooking pot, and cover with water. Mix in spice packet that came with meat. Cover pot and bring to boil, and then reduce to a simmer for 1 hour per pound, or until corned beef is tender.
Add whole potatoes and carrots, and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. Add cabbage and cook for 15 minutes longer.
Remove corned beef, and let rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Slice against the grain.
Place vegetables in a bowl for serving. Add as much cooking liquid as desired.

More St. Patrick party ideas

Don't buy those cheap plastic glasses that you throw away at the end of the night for your St. Patrick's Day party. A better idea is to use glasses you already own. Buy a resin based glass paint to paint shamrocks on beer glasses and the outside of glass plates or bowls. Paint on cute little Irish sayings like:

Kiss me! I'm Irish.
Luck of the Irish.
Hands off me pot-o-gold!

Only paint where food and drink won't touch the paint to be safe. To clean, wipe with a paper towel and warm water or rubbing alcohol.

St. Parick's Day ideas

St. Patrick's Day party decoration ideas

It's a good idea to plan ahead and save the green envelopes from old Christmas cards. Draw a shamrock on the outside and cut it out. Hang it up with the inside of the envelope that has no writing facing out.
Another great St. Patrick's Day party decoration idea is to use leftover hearts from Valentines Day. Glue 4 together at the points and paint them green. You now have a lucky four leaf clover. When the party is over, recycle them. Buying a green table cloth is a great idea because it can be used for a Christmas and for your St Patrick's Day party.

Recycle Bricks

“Just Brick It”
Recycle Bricks by either passing them onto salvage yards or even donate the bricks to near by construction workers. If you are redoing a wall or building,  use the bricks as ground up pieces to help insulate walls and help strengthen the structure!
